Crafty

Lately I’ve been spending a lot of free time sewing and crafting and have rediscovered this love of mine. I’ve always loved working with my hands and am coming to realize that this creative outlet is really important to me and my life/work balance. In December and January, I have sewn eden’s bedskirt, roman shade, a name banner for her room, a name banner for harper’s room, some reusable tissues/wipes, harper’s Christmas stocking. etc. I’m also trying my first felting project – dryer balls. Reuben is going to be installing some clotheslines in our basement in the next couple of weeks but I have been using the dryer more frequently and the dryer balls will cut the drying time in half and save some energy and money. Really easy to make too.

The internets is a great place to find ideas and other crafters and I’ve been frequenting www.etsy.com for a lot for ideas. Problem is, I have so many ideas and so little time. I spend a lot of time thinking about the next project and when naptime rolls around, I can usually be found at my sewing machine. I’ve also found so many ideas of what to make for gifts for others which I really enjoy doing but in recent years, have not found time to do. And I haven’t had to go to the fabric store for sometime as I’ve been using up my old material first. Then I plan to shop for items that can be upcycled into something, rather than buying new material. Anyway, the inspiration of this post just happens to be a free giveaway that I’d like to win at: http://jonquilsladybugs.blogspot.com. I’ll let you know if I win the tote bag and craft stuff! I’ll see if I can post some pictures soon of the items of I’ve made in recent months.

  1. visit the shop, tweet, and blog: 16 entries! I hope you win it :)

My Danish mom LOVES Martha Stewart so every year I buy them a Martha Stewart Magazine to send with their Christmas Presents. This year the box was too full so I kept the magazine. Like you, I had forgotten how much I love crafty crafts (tho I am FAR away from making curtains). It’s so weird that we can “forget” that we really enjoy something :) So, are felt balls the homemade version of tennis balls??

  2. Heidi, I really enjoyed reading this post and checking all the links you shared! I hope you can find lots of time pockets to HAVE FUN!

Over Christmas, when you were focused on sewing some of your recent projects, I just LOVED meeting you in the early dark wee hours of the morning………you, cutting material and sewing as early as 4:30-5:00AM, and me, running or tinkering in the kitchen at that same ungodly time.
