Comforts of home

I just got out of a warm shower where I washed my hair with shampoo and scrubbed with citrus smelling soaps. I slipped into some comfortable loose clothing and I’m about to crawl into my extremely comfortable bed. I’m relishing every moment of the comforts that I take for granted every day.

Tomorrow morning, the alarm clock is going to ring at 4:15 am. We’re going to (hopefully) transfer Eden from crib to carseat and we’re going to drive 3 1/2 hours north to Algonquin Park. We’ll pick up the canoe we have reserved and our permits and hopefully we’ll be on the water at 10:00am, ready for our first day of eight canoeing in Algonquin.

The last few weeks/months we’ve been carefully planning this trip. This last week we’ve been making trips to MEC, dehydrating half of our suppers, packing our bags, and talking extensively about all the things we look forward to (spending time wih just the three of us for 8 days, being outside and surrounded by beauty, being physically tired at the end of the day, cooking with our Bakepacker, seeing Eden learn new things/words, fishing etc.) and the things we are nervous about (portaging – don’t worry, Reuben’s carrying almost all the weight and making 2 trips each time – rain, bugs, Eden’s picky eating habits). We’re excited to take another challenging vacation as a family and exploring our beautiful province.

We’ll post plenty of pictures and stories when we get back next week – see you later!

  1. Thanks for posting, Heidi, on the eve of your big adventure. We’ve been thinking about you guys off and on all day, and wondering how you were feeling as this unique trip for your family is about to start. We’ll be wondering about you three (Oops, I mean FOUR!!) over this next week, and saying prayers many times. We wish you an energizing time of reflection and growth as you experience this time together at Algonquin. We’ll be eager to hear all about it. Hey, Reuben, no dropping your camera in the water!
