nursery

so we tried to finish up the nursery this weekend and we got pretty far! we need a few more finishing touches, a few more shelves in the closet, and we will be good to go. its a bit of a relief to have completed this. now we have somewhere for baby when he/she comes!

Main room composite
Change table and window

at first we had painted the dark yellow stripes the same green as the upper part of the room. it looked like a circus tent!

so, do you think this looks like a girl’s room or a boy’s room? we shot for gender neutral, but people seem to lean either way.

  1. awwwww!!! i really like your design and colors—i can’t wait to meet the little bundle that will make the room complete!

it looks pretty gender neutral to me–if i had to lean one way, i’d lean boy…but i have leaned that way your whole pregnancy!

  2. Wow! No wonder the cats love it in there- it looks great! You two have done a lot of work in that room! It’s definately “gender neutral”- no pinks or blues to be seen- except maybe in the artwork? So my “leaning” is that it looks more like a boy’s room, but that’s only because I picture a boy soon occupying that room… time will soon tell! :)

  3. I think it’s a good thing that you are trying to teach the cats to stay out of the crib:)

What is that picture above the changing table?

NICE NURSERY!! Oh, and what is that red form on the white “door” near the crib?

Can’t wait to see your nursery, and most of all, your baby!!!!

  4. That’s awesome that your cats are in the crib! I think it looks like a girl’s room :) The colors look awesome and I LOVE the changing table. I had a dream this week that we got a call saying Heidi was in labor. I can’t wait for that call :) It’s getting so close. Praying for you guys!

  5. After working in the Sunday School program this week with 8 two year old boys, I’m picturing a little girl in the room too!

Jess & Nick: the cats love the mobile! We have to put the little bugs a little higher so they can’t bat them around!

Mom – the red bag on the door is the bag that says “Reuben” on it with the little duck on it that you gave to us. We’ll probably put some toys in there. And the picture above the change table and above the dresser are a set from Ikea.

We are so happy with the end result. Last night, we were nesting! I was working on the budget, trying to figure out how the first few weeks will be with both Reuben and I off on Employment Insurance (=50% income) and Reuben was cleaning, organizing, unpacking and very busy!

  6. If I had to lean, I think it looks more like a girls room. But we used a very soft blue when Asher was born (we knew it was going to be a boy) and a blue and red victorian floral quilt in his crib. Some people said it was girly. I think it was perfect. We didn’t know what Rory was going to be, so we did a yellow gingham patter painted on the bottom half of the room and white on the top. Again…maybe kinda girly. Premenition?? Maybe. It looks beautiful you guys. I can’t wait to meet him/her! All your hard work is coming together!!!!!!!

  7. i love it..its beautiful… it makes me want to have a baby just so i can decorate a room like that.. only 3 more weeks!!! maybe..most likely..

  8. wait..that last post is confusing.i meant only 3 more weeks until u have ur baby..not for me to have a baby..

  9. I’d say gender neutral. Great choice of colours, it looks like something out of a fancy glossy house decor magazine. Reuben, what wide angle did you use? I think I can see barrel distortion. Um, a 20mm?

  10. yeah i thought i was on something when i noticed the door frame. i think it is neutral! but if pressured, i’d say female. yellow is why. but awesome guys! do you know that travis and sheena are expecting? they are down here and we get to see them tomorrow. “IT” has definitely begun. i wonder who is next.

  13. Hey guys!
Great looking room…for your little boy!!!!!!!!!!! I’m right. I know I am. Just wait.

  14. Nice Color Scheme, Guys!!
I love that nursery; don’t think it particularly favors either gender; it can work either way. I love it, love it. Maybe when I have a baby, I can ask you guys advice on decorating the nursery and other matters, of course.

  15. Hey guys. I love the nursery. I think it is pretty neutral but I say girl too. But it could be for a boy just as easily.

I saw your kitties and I have a tip for you. Since we have kitties too and we have a crib we found this trick helpful (came froma fellow cat owner). Put aluminum foil in the crib for a while. Cats hate tin foil. We did that in the crib for a few weeks/months before Jacob was born and neither of our cats has ever gone into the crib. They both made a beeline for the crib once it was set up and that worried us, we didn’t want any kitties on baby Jacob’s face! So we listened to some friends that tried the tin foil thing. We put both cats on the tin foil and they jumped out imeediately. It is a good trick for us cat owners with cribs.

It will be any day now. I am so excited for you both.
