First Day Back at Work

For me, this day was my first day back at the city of Hamilton with a ‘new’ job as a caseworker on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Pending team. Basically, my caseload consists of people who are on welfare (Ontario Works) while they are waiting for a decision to be deemed permanantly disabled by ODSP. Once they are deemed disabled, they get transferred to ODSP.

There are a lot of people applying for ODSP and so the caseloads for our team are very high – as high as 300 Benefit Units. To start, I have a caseload around 100 which will continue until my probation is over at the beginning of April. 100 is already keeping me extremely busy. Today was just exhausting – I have to learn a lot of new stuff with a new team and a new manager. However, I really like the work – I think – give me a few months to get back to you on that. I do like the people I’m working with and my manager is great – today she officially approved my vacation request for the family cruise in April!

  1. That job sounds like it may be difficult but very rewarding. Its good that you are enjoying is so far though. Also that is very good that she approved your time off for the cruise. I am still working onall my profs and some said it would be no problem but some are a little skeptical. Anyways, its good to hear about your hnew job and how it’s going!!!
